What an honour it was for our own 'Professor' Trice to deliver a talk at the AWS GetIT UK school presentation day last week at the Amazon Web Services' central London offices in Holburn.
Last Wednesday was the UK final for the top three schools who participated in the GetIT competition. It's all about empowering 12-14 year-old students, especially girls and young people from underrepresented communities, to engage with STEM subjects to learn cloud tech skills and design apps to help solve problems in the communities ... so very closely aligned to what we do at Get with the Program!
As you can imagine, when our CEO was invited to speak at the event, it was an opportunity that she jumped at.
Celebrating the success of the amazing students who took part in this initiative, her talk focused on role models and allies, and how by making the final, they'd actually become accidental role models themselves, something to be embraced and nurtured.
Congratulations to all who took part:
🔸 Southend School for Girls' team ‘Orion’s Belt’ with their Mental Health Support App, ‘Bloggle’,
🔸 St George's School Edinburgh's team ‘Bonsai’ with their Safe Route Finding App ‘Roots’,
🔸 Newstead Wood School with their ‘Sign Time’ app, teaching British Sign Language.
You are all winners in our eyes, and best of luck to the school that went through - everyone at Get with the Program are routing for you as you enter the international stage of the competition!
Thank you to everyone at AWS and elsewhere who were involved in this wonderfully inspiring competition.
